Summer is Here!

Fr. Francis Di Spigno, OFM,
Pastor

When I wrote last weekend’s letter for the bulletin, it was foggy and in the upper 60’s. Less than a week later we are pushing 100 degrees and melting! What a change!

I also mentioned that I had one more thank you to offer. On June 19th, The Gables, in Beach Haven hosted an incredible The Legacy Gala. What better way for Steve and Sondra Beninati to celebrate their

20-year milestone of The Gables Historic Inn and Restaurant than with a Legacy Gala. They not only celebrated an

anniversary, but they also gave back to thecommunity. Steve and Sondra have always been impressed by the work of the parish and center and decided that all of the proceeds from the Gala would go to support the St. Francis Community Center.

At the Gala, Kevin Walsh, the Executive Director of the Center shared these annual statistics:

  • 3,020 Seniors receive essential care and counseling

  • 310 individuals between the ages of 16-75 gained job-readiness skills

  • 650 people rely on the Food Pantry every month for essential groceries and support

  • 120+ families are provided with year-round childcare

  • 600 families receive Festive Holiday feasts to take home

  • 600+ children and families benefit from our Gift of Warmth drive at Christmas and from the school supply drive we hold here at St. Francis

  • 5,000+ people receive mental health and trauma counseling

  • 350 + clients receive financial aid to help pay an electric bill, rent payment, or a needed auto repair

Steve and Sondra are very aware that even though we live on beautiful Long Beach Island, there are plenty of people in Southern Ocean County and on Long Beach Island that rely on the assistance they find at St. Francis Parish & Center.

Thank you, Steve and Sondra, for your very generous hearts and outstanding kindness to us. Thank you for sharing your celebration with St. Francis Parish and Center and with all of the people we serve.

In closing, I encourage everyone to join in the fun at this year’s Festival of the Sea. We could still use some volunteers on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. If you can lend us a few hours, please contact the parish office or go to:

www.stfrancisparishlbi.org/festivalofthesea.

Also, please take note the slight changes in the Mass schedules. During the week of the Festival the daily Masses will be at St. Thomas Aquinas in Beach Haven and St. Thomas of Villanova in Surf City. Both are at 9 AM. There will be no 5 PM Mass at St. Francis, Brant Beach on July 5th due to the Festival.

Happy Summer everyone!  Peace and All Good.
