Collection Report

Fr. Francis Di Spigno, OFM,
Pastor

I am sure you noticed in last week’s bulletin that we reported that the collection for the weekend of October 12th was $7,715. You may have wondered if that was a typo or reasoned that the nor’easter kept the crowds low. If you did, you would have been partially correct. Attendance at Mass that weekend was lower than usual because of the storm but adding to the situation neither Fr. Matt nor I brought over all of the collection bags from the Brant Beach and Surf City churches. I know I was focused on getting home as the storm was growing in intensity that Sunday morning, so when I saw collection bags in the larger carrying bag, I picked it up and brought it to Brant Beach. I didn’t even think of checking the safe for the collections from the previous two Masses. Fr. Matt did exactly the same thing.

Unfortunately, that meant that the money left in the safes were not included in the collection report for the weekend of October 12th. So, between the smaller crowd at Mass and Matt’s and my forgetfulness, the numbers were way off.

You will notice, however, that the total for the first collection reported for last weekend was $32,249. That number is also out of the norm because it includes the missing collections from the previous week. Stacey Kelsall, our comptroller, tells me that the combined collections totaled $40,400. That would make the average between the two weeks to be $20,220. Of course, that number is still skewed because it does not take into account the lower attendance because of the storm but it does put us in the right ballpark. My apologies for the confusion but I did want to explain why the number was so low for the weekend of October 12th.

Feasibility Study

I want to thank everyone who participated in the feasibility study either in person, online, or by filling out the hard copy of the survey. We had a great response from the parish. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts on how to best move forward. We are scheduled to receive the report on November 25th. Once that has been reviewed, I will share what we have learned as soon as possible.
As you saw, we have a lot that needs to be done to secure the integrity of our buildings, but I don’t think a high goal has ever intimidated this wonderful community. I am most grateful for your continued support of St. Francis of Assisi Parish & Center.

Peace and All Good!
