Meeting Jesus

Fr. Francis Di Spigno, OFM,
Pastor

In last week’s letter I suggested the one thing we could do in these difficult times is to focus on Jesus and figure out who Jesus is calling us to be. My experience tells me that it is impossible to do on your own.

We have a number of opportunities at St. Francis that can help us to meet Jesus. Because we are a Franciscan community sometimes that opportunity includes meeting Christ through St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. Through their lives, their struggles to meet Jesus, and their desire to live a life more and more Christ-like, they can also teach us how to do the same.

Below are a list of up coming events and other opportunities for us to meet Christ.

The Transitus of St. Francis: This prayer service remembers St. Francis’ passing from life to death to new Life through Jesus’ Resurrection. Friday, Oct. 3rd at 6 PM at St. Francis Church.

The Feast of St. Francis and the Blessing of the

  • Animals: Saturday, Oct. 4th 9 AM at St. Francis Church. The blessing will take place immediately after Mass.

  • Women’s Cornerstone Retreat: Oct. 17th & 18th. Please check the bulletin for more details. (Men’s Cornerstone Retreat is in March 2026)

  • Spiritual Direction: This is an opportunity to speak one on one with trained director to help understand how God is working in your life. Please check the bulletin for more details.

Two new initiatives that we are introducing to the parish.

  • Building with Living Stones: This is a comprehensive program on the Franciscan
Movement. It is designed to allow those who are already familiar with St. Francis and St. Clare to deepen their knowledge and understanding as well as those who are curious to know more about the
Franciscan movement. This is open to anyone who would like to learn more about St. Francis and St. Clare.

  • Walking With Purpose: This all women’s Bible Study was created to enable women to know Christ personally through Scripture.

Please check the bulletin for details on all of these events and opportunities to meet Jesus. If you have any questions, please contact the parish office.

I would like to end this letter with a modified version of the prayer I ended last week’s letter.

May the Holy Spirit grant all of us the wisdom, courage and strength to truly be a disciple of Jesus Christ. May we rise above our human reactions so we can respond to the challenges and struggles in our lives, our society, and our world, as followers of Christ. May we be a light in the darkness and comfort to those who mourn. May we have a hunger and thirst for righteousness and possess a clean heart that is merciful. May we be peacemakers so we can truly rejoice and be glad as we recognize that the kingdom of God is in our midst. Amen
