Praying the Stations of the Cross in the Method of St. Francis of Assisi

This Lent, we invite you to journey with us as we pray the Stations of the Cross in the Method of St. Francis of Assisi. This Franciscan form of the Stations invites us not simply to observe Christ’s Passion, but to walk with Him- step by step- allowing His love, humility, and suffering to shape our lives of discipleship.

From the earliest days of the Church, Christians have remembered and shared the story of Jesus’ Passion, death, and resurrection. As pilgrimages to Jerusalem grew, especially after the Church of the Holy Sepulcher was built in the 4th century, believers longed to walk where Jesus walked. By the 13th century, the Franciscans became the custodians of the holy sites and helped pilgrims pray the Way of the Cross. When travel became difficult, the Franciscans brought this devotion home, developing and spreading the Stations of the Cross throughout the Church so all could pray this sacred journey.

St. Francis of Assisi had a deep love for the Crucified Christ, desiring to follow Jesus with humility, trust, and compassion. That same Franciscan spirit continues today, inviting us not only to remember Christ’s suffering, but to walk with Him and be transformed by His love.

We will pray this devotion together over four Fridays in Lent, moving slowly through three to four stations each week, allowing time for reflection as we journey together toward Calvary.

Each Friday evening, all are welcome to gather for a simple meal of soup and bread at 5:00 PM in the church hall. Anyone who would like to contribute a crockpot of soup is invited to bring it to the hall before 5:00 PM. Those who are unable to join us for the meal are warmly invited to come directly to the church at 6:00 PM to pray the Stations of the Cross.

All are welcome whether you join us for the meal, the prayer, or both. Come and experience this meaningful and transformative way of praying the Stations of the Cross together this Lent. Peace and all good.
