Daily Reflection: Friday, September 10

Friday of the 23rd Week in Ordinary Time

Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?  …. Remove the wooden beam from your own; then you will see clearly to to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.  (Lk 6:41-42)

This teaching suggests that humility precedes charity and service.  If I correct a sinner, I must first own up to my own sinfulness.  If I give to a poor person, I am only sharing what has been given to me.
