Daily Reflection: Friday, November 5
November 5. Friday of the Thirty-First Week in Ordinary Time
Thus I aspire to proclaim the Gospel not where Christ has already been named, so that I do not build on another’s foundation, but as it is written: Those who have never been told of him shall see, and those who have never heard of him shall understand. (Rom 15:20-21)
Saint Paul trusts the foundations laid by others and, with a sense of great urgency, presses on to virgin territory to bring the Good News to as many people as possible. We who are sort of hometown missionaries are in a different situation. Many people we know have already heard the message and discarded it. The foundations appear to be cracked and crumbling. Francis of Assisi was in the same predicament and offers us guidance:
Find your joy in the gospel. Live it and share it like it is brand new… because it is.
