Daily Reflection: Thursday, October 21

Thursday, October 21

Look at today’s Gospel: “I have come to set the earth on fire and how I wish it were already blazing.” Yes, Jesus said this. He was very much aware that many would embrace him and his teachings and others would not but would be violently opposed to him. Yes, Jesus is not going away because he as come to “do the Father’s will.” He has challenged the comfortable and those who have a narrow vision of God and how God should act. This is always a challenge for us because as we have heard elsewhere in Scripture “God’s ways are not always our ways.” As Psalm 1 says: Let us be like “a tree planted near running water that yields its fruit in due season.”

Fr. Andrew
