Don’t be shy about your marriage.  Share your good news with couples who are getting ready for this great sacrament.  And don’t think that you have to be perfect to be on our team.  It is not necessary to have years and years of marriage in your resume, either; just a willingness to share what it’s like for you to have a Catholic marriage. 

For engaged couples, participation in a Pre-Cana program is a requirement of all the dioceses in New Jersey.  As with all requirements, those who have to attend often feel like it is just one more hoop to jump through on their way to the altar.  Couples who participate here invariably leave having changed their mind.  They acknowledge new insights and deeper understanding.  They also usually have a good time.  Our last group of engaged couples all went out together for a beer afterward. 

We have seven couples on our team and could use some more. The team couples make short presentations on topics like hopes and dreams, creating a home, starting a family, communications, intimacy, and sacrament.  There are small group discussions and one-on-one time for the engaged couples. 

One of the appeals of our program is that we have only a small number of engaged couples.  It is not a mass production. 

The Pre-Cana Programs here are the first weekend in November and the third weekend in March, Friday evening and Saturday till mid-afternoon.
