Prayer Shawl and Knitters and Crocheters Ministry

About

Our Jewish brothers and sisters use prayer shawls to help remind them of God’s presence and to help them to pray. During certain times in our lives when we are unable to find the words or the strength to pray, knitting or crocheting prayer shawls can be a form of prayer. Both the knitter and the recipient of a prayer shawl feel God’s presence in a special way. Prayer shawls can be like a special hug from God.

Do you know someone who is undergoing a medical procedure, experiencing a great loss, experiencing overwhelming stress, journeying their final days on earth, or going through a time a bereavement. People who are experiencing these hard times, they can find it a difficult time to pray. One gift one can give is a blessed prayer shawl made by our Prayer Shawl ministers. If you would like one, please contact Fr. Scott below.

Knitters and Crocheters meet weekly on Friday Mornings from 10:00 AM to noon in the Knight Wing Conference Room in the St. Francis Center. This is a time to develop community, to learn how to knit or crochet, and to pray for those in need. Knitters and Crocheters can work on personal projects but are asked to make one item to donate. Those participating in this ministry also make pocket prayer shawls, hand warmers for people in memory care, and hearts, scarves, hats, and baby blankets for those in need.  The group will soon add patterns and prayer for the meetings.
