Ministers of Hospitality

Ushers

Anyone who has walked through any of the doors of our churches has met an usher-- the men and woman who greet parishioners, hold doors, assist handicapped persons, find seats for people who arrive  when the church may be crowded, distribute parish bulletins, and take up the collection. Ushers also select members of the congregation to take up the Offertory gifts and gently direct people in the lines for Holy Communion after offering the Sign of Peace to members of the congregation.

More behind the scenes, ushers assist anyone who appears ill including calling 911 and tidy up seating areas by redistributing hymnals and straightening chairs. Ushers also secure the collection and transfer it appropriately.

Ushers are called to this ministry to provide a welcoming environment to all who enter.

St. Francis ushers recently held a fundraising brunch to benefit the St. Francis Food Pantry.

At the height of the summer season ushers are needed at all four churches of St. Francis Parish for every Mass.

Volunteers are always welcome and will be trained so no prior experience is necessary. To volunteer or receive more information contact Bill Malone and provide your name and email address and phone number and what church and which Mass you usually attend. Or just speak to the head usher before or after any Mass.

Greeters

The men and women who are called to this hospitality ministry serve at special celebrations like the Blessing of the Animals, the Mass of Remembrance, the Stations of the Cross and many sacramental celebrations. This is a new ministry born from an awareness that some celebrations require more specialized welcoming.  Greeters arrive early for the celebration and welcome people at the doors and assist anyone needing special attention as well as hand out programs. This is Franciscan hospitality for special occasions. All that is required is a desire to make everyone feel welcome.
